Job Summary:
The Psychiatric Clinical Officer collaborates with other medical staff to integrate psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services, ensuring the treatment of patients with severe and common psychiatric disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with mental illnesses and psychiatric disorders; refer complicated cases to the Medical Officer.
- Administer and monitor reactions to psychotropic and other medications.
- Support clients in understanding emotional disturbances and mental illnesses and accepting the need for treatment, considering the cultural context.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient treatments and laboratory results according to standard medical recordkeeping and MTI policy.
- Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on mental health issues.
- Support medicine management for psychiatric drugs for regional health facilities in close collaboration with the Medical Coordinator.
- Provide training for medical staff on the diagnosis and treatment of severe and common mental health disorders.
- Ensure data collected is accurate and submit reports according to schedule.
- Conduct medical practices with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and MTI Code of Conduct.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma in Mental Health required.
- Licenses and Certifications: Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council; valid practicing license required.
- Experience: 2 years of psychiatric medicine practice required. Experience with international NGOs is an advantage.
Knowledge:
- Professional psychiatric medicine principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Theories, principles, and techniques of group and individual psychotherapy; symptoms and behavior patterns of patients with emotional disturbances and mental illnesses.
- Medications, including psychotropic drugs, and the control, preparation, and administration of medications.
Skills:
- Applying professional psychiatric medicine principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Developing interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients.
- Assessment and application of appropriate intervention techniques.
- Effective communication with a variety of individuals; able to function calmly in situations requiring high sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
- Proficient in both written and spoken English.
Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to the professional code of conduct.
- Treat all patients and staff with respect, without prejudice.
- Provide high-quality, ethical, compassionate care that places the needs of the patient first.
- Maintain detailed records with high accuracy.
- Support MTI Calling and adhere to the MTI Code of Conduct.
