Programme Overview:
The Staff Health and Wellbeing Services (SHW) aim to provide WHO personnel with comprehensive medical and psychological support, especially in complex environments. They ensure personnel have the necessary information and strategies for staff care and self-care to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Organizational Context:
Under the supervision of the Operations Officer and guidance from the WHO Representative, the Wellness and PRSEAH Officer will improve the capacity and resilience of staff and consultants to respond effectively during normal and emergency situations, following WHO policy guidelines. This role involves close cooperation with Staff Health/medical and Wellbeing Services and PRSEAH at WHO headquarters and regional offices.

Key Responsibilities:

Staff Wellness:

  • Conduct ongoing psychosocial status and needs assessments for WHO staff and consultants.
  • Provide culturally sensitive psychosocial support through individual and group counseling.
  • Offer preventative and crisis management training for various stages of deployment.
  • Travel to field sites to promote and implement stress management activities.
  • Facilitate team building and cohesion interventions.
  • Enhance peer support networks and assist with training activities.
  • Respond to critical incidents with appropriate interventions and recommendations.
  • Advise management on stress-mitigating strategies to enhance staff welfare.

Medical Support:

  • Provide consultations for health problems related to work.
  • Offer emergency medical care and first aid during office hours.
  • Provide guidance on staff health and safety in WHO workplaces.
  • Coordinate safe and timely medical evacuations as per WHO guidelines.

PRSEAH:

  • Identify and support systemic solutions to protect against sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.
  • Conduct and monitor SEA Risk Assessments using available tools.
  • Develop and review internal reporting and response procedures for handling complaints.
  • Advise senior management on responsibilities in preventing and responding to SEA and SH.
  • Support PRSEAH mainstreaming among stakeholders, including government and partners.

Education:

Essential:

  • University degree in clinical psychology, counseling, gender studies, or a medical doctorate with specialization in psychiatry or nursing with relevant training.
  • Valid certification to practice clinical psychology or psychiatry at the national level.

Desirable:

  • Additional certifications in fields like substance abuse, family counseling, critical incident stress management, or cross-cultural communication.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Minimum one year of progressively responsible experience in counseling, clinical psychology, psychiatry, or related fields, with at least three years at the international level.
  • One year of experience in staff wellness and PSEA programming.
  • Experience in crisis or emergency response.

Desirable:

  • Experience with WHO, other UN agencies, or relevant NGOs/humanitarian organizations.
  • Experience in developing countries.
  • One year of experience in managing mental health programs or projects.
  • Experience in providing stress counseling within the UN system or other international organizations.

Languages:

  • Excellent knowledge of English.

Other Skills:

  • Proficiency in office software applications.
