Job Details:
General Summary:
The Theatre Assistant will assist in SMC (Safe Male Circumcision) processes, ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols, and clean, disinfect, and sterilize theatre equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in circumcision processes, follow up with clients, and document sterilization processes.
- Support the cleaning and sterilization of all theatre linen, including patient gowns, theatre gowns, and drapes.
- Work with the sterilization nurse to collect, clean, disinfect, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments and linen.
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and health care waste SOPs under the supervision of the site team leader.
- Regularly clean the theatre environment and its surroundings at the site and during circumcision outreaches according to MoH standards.
- Manage theatre waste using segregation systems as guided by MoH infection control SOPs.
- Properly clean, disinfect, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments.
- Collaborate with the team to meet VMMC (Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision) targets according to guidelines.
Person Specification:
- Minimum requirement: Certificate in a health-related discipline from a recognized health institution (e.g., a Certificate in Nursing).
- At least two years of working experience in an operating theatre setting.
- A certificate in SMC training is an added advantage.
- Basic training and understanding of key infection prevention requirements in a health care setting.
- Basic understanding of HIV/AIDS concepts.
- Active practicing license and registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council.
- Attention to detail, effective teamwork, driven, and resilient.
