Job Description:
About The Position: IsraAID is seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Manager to implement activities in Palorinya and Nakivale Refugee Settlements. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and monitor WASH projects to ensure that refugees and host communities have access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation facilities, and practice good hygiene behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Implementation, Monitoring, and Delivery:
- Provide technical and operational support throughout all stages of IsraAID Uganda’s WASH-related programming, ensuring effective collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
- Plan and conduct promotional activities to improve hygiene and sanitation practices in host communities and refugee settlements, mobilizing community participation.
- Lead and supervise water supply infrastructure construction, including borehole drilling, installation of pumps, well platforms, and water distribution systems, ensuring community access.
- Lead maintenance and rehabilitation of existing and new WASH infrastructure, helping local authorities establish effective mechanisms for ongoing work.
- Lead and supervise installation of improved sanitation infrastructure at community, institutional, and household levels, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, environmental and social screening of project sites, and preparation of regular progress updates.
- Monitor, report, and certify the use of program resources, ensuring compliance with allocations, rules, regulations, and donor commitments.
- Prepare quality and timely WASH progress reports for management, donors, and partners.
- Networking and Partnership Building:
- Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with government counterparts, UN agencies, donor agencies, WASH institutions, NGOs, research institutes, and the private sector.
- Produce WASH IEC materials to promote awareness at the community level and support fundraising efforts.
- Participate in inter-agency discussions at national and settlement levels, ensuring IsraAID’s interests and priorities are integrated.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:
- Requirements:
- Must be a Ugandan national.
- Fluency in English.
- Degree in water supply engineering, civil engineering, hydrology, or a related field (Master’s/Postgraduate degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in WASH programs, with previous experience in refugee settlements being advantageous.
- Specific Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of water supply, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene promotion.
- Understanding of construction and infrastructure development principles.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and find innovative solutions.
- Proficiency in cross-cultural communication and engagement.
- Competencies:
- Attention to detail and high standards of performance.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Commitment to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
