Job Details:

Scope of Work: Evidence generation and use are central to the PlayMatters project. The PlayMatters consortium is dedicated to building the evidence base for Learning through Play interventions. The Research & Learning Consultant will support high-quality evidence production to inform policy, practice, and further research. The consultant will aid in the implementation of the PlayMatters Research & Learning Agenda through data cleaning, analysis, and visualization, as well as the creation and dissemination of evidence products for internal and external stakeholders. Supervision will be provided by the PlayMatters Regional Research & Learning Coordinator based in NYC, NY. The position can be based in Kampala, Uganda or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with remote technical supervision and an in-person focal point.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Cleaning: Clean both quantitative and qualitative data sets for analysis.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct preliminary data analysis, such as descriptive statistical analysis for quantitative datasets and initial codebook creation for qualitative datasets.
  • Study Design: Assist in the design and review of study tools.
  • Ethical Clearance: Support the documentation and submission of Institutional Review Board ethical clearances for studies.
  • Report Reviews: Review and copyedit technical research and learning reports.
  • Evidence Product Development: Develop additional evidence products, including blog posts, infographics, and briefs to increase evidence uptake in accessible formats.
  • Evidence Dissemination: Plan and execute evidence dissemination in internal and external forums.

Deliverables:

  • Review and disseminate 2 evidence products.
  • Complete 1 evidence dissemination event.
  • Submit an End of Consultantship Reflection Report summarizing personal and professional growth.

Payment Rate and Schedule:

  • Monthly stipend of $500 USD/month.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Current Masters’ or doctoral (PhD or EdD) student in Education, Psychology, International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Policy Studies, or related Social Sciences discipline.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • At least one year of experience working in education in a low-resource environment.
  • Experience analyzing qualitative data using Dedoose, nVivo, or other qualitative data analysis software is a plus.
  • Experience analyzing quantitative data using SPSS, Stata, or other statistical analysis packages is a plus.
  • Graphic design and data visualization experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in East Africa is a plus.

Language Skills:

  • Strong writing skills in English and significant writing experience.
