Job Description:
About the Position: IsraAID is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nutrition Officer to implement activities in Palorinya and Nakivale Refugee Settlements. The successful candidate will plan, implement, and monitor nutrition activities to ensure that refugees and host communities live healthy lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement nutrition response at IsraAID Uganda’s area of operations, ensuring adherence to stipulated protocols.
- Implement a comprehensive Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition Program.
- Promote and implement breastfeeding programs.
- Support capacity building for Community Outreach Workers through identifying capacity gaps and providing training.
- Prepare and deliver culturally-sensitive awareness and educational nutritional messages to the community.
- Conduct regular mass screenings for children under five in collaboration with Community Health Volunteers/Community Outreach Workers.
- Recognize, diagnose, and care for individuals suffering from malnutrition.
- Implement appropriate referral pathways for malnutrition cases.
- Monitor the progress of patients referred to nutrition management/feeding programs.
- Develop, implement, and revise nutritional guidelines tailored for specific needs with cultural sensitivity.
- Compile and submit donor and IsraAID Nutrition program reports weekly, biweekly, and monthly.
- Liaise with the Procurement Department for logistical program supplies, procurement, and monitoring supply control.
- Monitor and review nutrition supplies and equipment movements such as deliveries, storage, transport, and utilization at the site level.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Experience and Technical Competencies:
- Degree/Diploma in Food Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience within an INGO/NGO in implementing community nutrition programs.
- Experience in Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition.
- Experience in nutrition surveys and assessments.
Skills:
- Proven analytical, communication/negotiation skills and strategic thinking.
- Experience in report writing and excellent computer skills.
- Confident, flexible, and positive personality.
- Strong planning and implementation capacity.
Physical Environment and Demands:
- Ability to work in hardship areas (previous experience in a camp setting is an advantage).
Languages:
- Essential: English and Kiswahili
