Reporting to: Head of Central Operations
Job Purpose: The Trade Finance & Financial Markets Operations Manager is responsible for managing, administering, and processing Trade Finance facilities and the Bank’s Financial Markets Back Office activities to create a center of excellence.
Key Accountabilities:
- Oversee timely and accurate execution of all trade transactions and documents, including Import and Export transactions, Letters of Credit, guarantees, Import/Export bills, Contract Finance, and other Trade Finance products.
- Monitor compliance of all Financial Markets Back Office activities with policies and market best practices.
- Execute all Financial Markets products, including Forex spot, Forwards, swaps, options, money market products, Repos, and securities (T-bills/T-bonds) trading.
- Formulate policies, procedures, measures, and risk management and mitigation approaches for financial market operations and Trade Finance.
- Administer and monitor Trade Finance products through various stages of their life cycle.
- Communicate with counterparties and other functions within the Bank to solve ad hoc treasury transaction issues.
- Champion projects to improve processes by identifying gaps and liaising with other business units.
- Regularly review reconcilable accounts to ensure up-to-date reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
- Review service reports for Trade Finance and Financial Markets Ops, detect service failures, and enforce corrective measures.
- Introduce and maintain measurable service standards.
- Manage, mentor, and train staff to foster a team approach and identify training needs.
- Champion due diligence, AML/CFT, and KYC programs in the unit per bank policies and regulatory framework.
- Ensure preparation and submission of regulatory reports within set timelines.
- Prepare and submit operational reports to the Head of Central Operations.
- Enforce high data quality standards as per bank policies.
- Provide support to Transactional Banking, Financial Markets, and Treasury on technical operational matters.
- Provide relevant reports and information to Credit and Risk teams to guide trade transaction decisions, policies, and processes.
- Develop mechanisms to safeguard financial/shipping documents and customer/bank records.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Statistics, or a related field.
- Treasury Certification (ACI).
- Recognized Professional Qualification in Trade Finance or International Trade Management is an added advantage.
- At least 7 years of banking experience, including 2 years in a Trade Finance and/or Treasury operations supervisory role.
- Up-to-date knowledge of Trade Finance and Treasury Back Office operating practices and procedures.
- Understanding of compliance matters, including KYC, AML, and CFT issues.
- Sound understanding of banking, foreign exchange, and Treasury functions.
- Experience in examining and re-engineering processes and procedures, formulating policy, and implementing new processes and procedures.
- Ability to supervise and train staff, organize, prioritize, and schedule work assignments.
