Job Summary
Absa Bank is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support to our business units. This role involves working under the supervision of a senior lawyer or manager to address legal queries and ensure that they are directed to the appropriate team members.
Job Description
Accountability: Risk and Control
- Assist the Principal Legal Risk Owner in managing Legal Principal Risks as per the Group Legal principal risk framework.
- Support the Group Legal Risk Control Framework by collecting and analyzing legal data, and preparing/editing submissions to governance committees.
Accountability: Teamwork
- Provide technical assistance and support to the legal team.
- Develop and deliver training initiatives to frontline and operational staff to enhance their understanding of legal matters.
Accountability: Commercial
- Build and maintain effective relationships with business stakeholders to facilitate smooth legal operations.
Accountability: Technical
- Conduct legal research and draft legal opinions as needed.
- Support the administration of the legal team and participate in cross-functional working groups and projects involving the Legal function.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Military Science, or Security (Required)
Job Experience
- No specific experience required; open to recent graduates and those with relevant academic qualifications.
Work Hours
- 8 hours per day
