Job Purpose: To provide leadership to banking operations within the country, ensuring operational excellence, process and financial efficiencies, and a robust control environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in Management Committees to formulate the bank’s strategy and implement the target operating model for Operations.
- Lead country Operations teams to achieve strategic objectives.
- Design and implement programs to establish a fit-for-growth Operations control framework.
- Develop and update organizational processes and infrastructure to ensure operational excellence, ensuring accurate, consistent processing and service delivery.
- Oversee the development and administration of Operations policies, procedures, and standards.
- Plan, execute, and finalize projects within deadlines and budget, ensuring quality control and standardization across the bank.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, internal policy, and process standards, fostering a culture of precise execution and discipline.
- Identify and manage operational risks, update the bank’s procedure manuals, and manage the book of authorized signatures.
- Implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans, provide risk awareness training, and stay abreast of regulatory changes.
- Maintain oversight of branch operations and ensure branch controls are optimal.
- Manage the cash depot (CCD) ensuring compliance with Central Bank and internal policies, and oversee account opening processes.
- Oversee operational processing of all cards and associated controls, and support digital channel transaction support.
- Manage reconciliations of card accounts and ensure systems are scalable and accessible.
- Support Treasury Front Office/dealers to process and confirm deals within deadlines, ensuring compliance with counterparty limits and settlement instructions.
- Manage loan disbursements and ensure timely and accurate updates.
- Manage SWIFT and RTGS processes in compliance with Central Bank directives.
- Oversee cheque processing, EFTs, direct debits, standing orders, and salaries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to clear house rules and timelines.
- Ensure efficient operation of e-channels and agency banking platforms, and manage transactions and reconciliations.
- Prepare quarterly board packs and management information for Operations exceptions management.
- Develop and manage the country budget for Operations, establish performance objectives, and take corrective actions as needed.
- Engage with vendors to ensure compliance with SLAs and potential improvements.
- Liaise with the Central Bank and Banker’s Association for updates, changes, challenges, and improvements.

Academic and Professional Requirements:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business or any related field.
- A master’s degree in a business-related discipline, and professional qualifications such as CPA or ACCA are added advantages.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in banking Operations in a regulated financial institution, with 5 years in a supervisory role in Operations management.
