Job Title: Financial Planning and Controls Officer

Job Purpose:
As the Financial Planning and Controls Officer at Jibu, you will be crucial in overseeing financial planning and controls for Jibu Uganda. You will collaborate closely with the Group Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Head and the Group Financial Control team to ensure accurate and strategic financial planning while maintaining a robust financial control environment.

Supervision Received:
This high-level management position works autonomously, reporting to the Group Head of Financial Planning & Analysis and the Country Manager (Uganda).

Management Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Group Financial Operations and Group Controller, providing leadership and building capacity within finance teams across country offices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial Planning:

  • Develop and manage forward-looking financial planning processes at the OPCO level in collaboration with the Group FP&A Head.
  • Assist in creating annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial plans and forecasts.

Financial Control Environment:

  • Work with the Group Financial Controller to establish and maintain a robust financial control environment.
  • Monitor financial controls to minimize risk and ensure compliance.

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to local management and senior Group Executive management.

Financial Reporting:

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing local financial reports.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including donors, to provide accurate financial reports.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with local taxation and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with changes in local tax laws and regulations.

Financial Controls:

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial controls and procedures.
  • Identify areas for strengthening controls.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the primary finance contact for OpCo staff, franchisees, banks, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.

Experience Requirements:

  • 4+ years of finance experience in a similar role in Uganda within a for-profit business operating in multiple locations and currencies.
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) required.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including IFRS and IASs.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements and management accounting (costing, unit economics).
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets, forecasts, and monitoring actual vs. budget.
  • High proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent accounting software experience; Netsuite is a plus.
  • Strong focus on controls, processes, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with business partners.
  • Confidence to challenge senior opinions and maintain positive relationships.
