Project Information:
The INCLUDE (Inclusive Livestock Development for Smallholder Farmers) project, funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy (EKN), aims to improve resilient livelihoods and achieve a living income for 75,000 smallholder livestock farmers in Uganda. The project also seeks to enhance the management of 37,500 acres of agricultural land and improve access to input and output markets, as well as affordable credit. The Economist & Access to Market Advisor will be one of the twelve Senior Advisors within this project, reporting to the INCLUDE Project Manager. The project operates in selected districts of southwestern Uganda, western Uganda, the Busoga region, and Kampala (school milk program).
Job Purpose:
The Economist & Access to Markets Advisor supports the INCLUDE project in financial, economic, and market aspects, such as cost-benefit assessments, cost-price analyses, market price monitoring, and assessment of market actors. The advisor will lead the implementation of inclusive livestock markets and supervise the activities of the SHF credit and SACCO advisor.
Job Description:
Project Strategy
- Promote knowledge sharing, learning, and joint actions among implementing partners and key stakeholders.
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation through technical assistance and capacity building for implementing partners, dairy cooperatives, women, and youth.
- Support project planning and quality control of implementing partners’ deliverables according to project documents, budgets, and donor requirements.
Networking and Partnership Development
- Participate in relevant conferences/events and communicate project results to a broader audience.
- Support livestock platforms in information sharing and joint action for development.
- Assist livestock cooperatives in building relationships with private sector, government, and service providers.
- Build and maintain relationships with project stakeholders, including ministries, local authorities, private sector, and partners.
Operational Support
- Prepare cost-benefit assessments for project interventions.
- Conduct cost-price analyses for agricultural activities and establish a market price monitoring system.
Knowledge Development
- Support knowledge development, case studies, testimonials, and documentation of project results.
- Assist in the SHF access to finance agenda.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Economics, Business Administration, or related field with a focus on rural development, microfinance, or agricultural economics.
- Over eight years of experience in agricultural finance or rural development programs.
- Proven experience with market actors and financial institutions in Uganda.
- Experience managing partner relations with NGOs, government departments, research institutes, and private sector.
- Skills in guiding and coaching teams, financial product development, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Leadership, mentoring, and innovative skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
- Strong analytical skills and a practical approach.
