Job Details:
Reports to: Ramp Supervisor
Job Description: The Ramp Agent is responsible for efficiently handling passenger luggage, air cargo, and various ground support equipment to ensure smooth airport operations. The role demands physical stamina, flexibility in work hours, and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload passenger luggage and air cargo, including bulk items and containers/pallets, onto carts, dollies, and the airport belt system.
- Handle and deliver wheelchairs and child strollers to designated locations.
- Provide special handling of luggage/cargo as required or directed.
- Deliver passenger luggage to the claim area and unload it onto the conveyor system.
- Ensure air cargo is delivered to the appropriate recipient.
- Drive and operate ground support equipment such as tow tractors, belt loaders, container loaders, baggage tugs, baggage carts, cargo dollies, etc.
- Collect and load mail, live animals, wheelchairs, and child strollers onto the aircraft.
- Report all equipment malfunctions to the appropriate Supervisor/Manager.
- Comply with UCAA legislation and Uganda Airlines security requirements.
- Adhere to Uganda Airlines’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain the highest standards of safety and security at all times.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Experience):
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Ability to travel to the airport during hours when public transport may not be available.
- Capability to follow processes and procedures with a flexible approach when required.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Physical ability to work in a manual environment and repeatedly lift up to 32kg throughout a shift.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a challenging environment.
- Possession of a full driving license.
- Previous experience working in an aviation environment is required.
- Ability to speak different languages is an added advantage.
