The Safeguarding Coordinator will play a lead role in driving Save the Children International (SCI) initiatives in the West Nile and Northern regions. This position involves monitoring and capacity building of staff, volunteers, and partners, ensuring compliance and accountability, managing investigations, and advocating for child protection across the region. The role collaborates with the National Safeguarding Manager at Head Office and Regional Area Managers and/or Project Managers in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Safeguarding Standards Implementation:
- Coordinate with the National Safeguarding Manager to oversee safeguarding implementation in the West Nile & Northern Region.
- Establish safeguarding policies and local procedures in the region.
- Ensure implementation of safeguarding mechanisms and provide feedback to stakeholders.
- Enforce compliance with safeguarding policies and the Code of Conduct.
- Integrate safeguarding approaches into all projects and activities.
- Address and report child safeguarding concerns effectively.
Safeguarding Leadership:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks to children in project activities.
- Advocate for safeguarding at national levels.
- Provide support and guidance to emergency/humanitarian response and program teams.
- Map service providers for children and develop/update local procedures.
- Report all incidents promptly and according to procedures.
Training Programmes and Capacity Building:
- Develop a capacity-building plan for staff and partners.
- Review and strengthen safeguarding systems within field offices.
- Lead training programs on safeguarding for all staff, partners, and associates.
- Promote safe programming and safeguarding practices across sectors.
- Support staff and volunteers in identifying and mitigating risks to children.
Reporting:
- Implement Complaint/Feedback Response Mechanisms (CFRM) involving beneficiaries and children.
- Address all child and adult safeguarding concerns promptly.
- Support the development of procedures and guidance documents on safeguarding.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Humanities or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Child Protection or training in an INGO.
- Leadership experience in an INGO or similar organization.
- Experience managing complex child protection/safeguarding investigations.
- Experience in advocacy or policy work related to Child Protection/Safeguarding.
- Experience planning and conducting training programs/workshops in child protection/safeguarding.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
- Commitment to Children’s Rights.
- Ability to work in challenging environments and travel as required.
