Job Opening: Legal Officer
African Queen No. 1 Distributor Limited (AQL) is a privately owned organization in the business of large-scale importation and distribution of Fast-Moving Consumer goods in the categories of Personal Care (Hair and Skin), Stationery, Home care and Foods and Beverages. The company operates nine Depots around the country i.e in the Central Business District (3 Depots), Namanve, Lira, Mbarara, Masaka, Hoima, Arua and Mbale.
Job Title: Legal Officer
Reports to: Company Secretary/Head of Legal
Job Purpose (also called job summary) Describe in summary the objective why this job
• Provide Legal advisory support to the business with a major bias in in debt collection and follow up on prosecution of cases both in criminal and Civil Court.
Responsibilities /Key Deliverables (list the key activities the job holder is expected to execute or conduct on a recurring basis during the life time of the position):
• Providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice to your employer and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sector and their products or services.
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
• Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
• Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
• Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
Expected reports:
Weekly/monthly
• Weekly Litigation report
• Weekly debt recovery report
• Monthly Contracts report
• Monthly Compliance report
Job Qualifications/Attributes
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Law
2. Post graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
3. An enrolled Advocate
4. Minimum of two (2) years legal practice
Personal Attributes
1. Self-driven
2. Ability to research
3. Good interpretation of the Law
4. Ability to interact with regulatory authorities.
5. Work well under pressure
